Allyship, it’s more than a word

First National Financial LP Jun 30, 2024   mins

By definition, allyship is a commitment to sustainable action and a pledge to advocate boldly with and for others. In practice, it can change lives.

This year in support of Pride, First National is encouraging everyone to contemplate the practical meaning of allyship and join together in an ongoing effort to stand up for others who celebrate their own distinct social identities.

By lifting others, we can create a more supportive world for our colleagues, partners, clients and the communities we serve across Canada.

Watch allyship in action

To illustrate the importance of allyship, we recorded this special video. It features the members of First National’s employee resource group known as Spaces describing how allyship has made a meaningful difference in their lives.

As its name suggests, Spaces exists to create safe spaces for First National team members to meet, engage and support each other and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community at large.

We are grateful to John Gumaga, Michelle Nochomovitz, Sarah Tompson, Daniel Di Gregorio and Conor Walsh for sharing their wisdom.

And we gratefully salute the courage and selflessness of those who practice allyship daily.
